This project started approximately, well we’re getting close to three years now.

It’s a very large project it’s approximately close to One hundred and forty thousand square feet.

We have a five-story structure with underground parking.

And certainly one of the most exciting parts of this project

as you see it from the exterior design wise is a project that was designed to look like a stack of books.

There’s a fourth floor with the colour red that kind of makes it stand out.

Then we have a cantilevered floor on the fifth floor that is called the Halifax living room which is essentially

an open public space that people can sit in this room . . . read, talk socialize, look out at the city.

Modern Libraries are part of great cities.

They are not the book warehouses that a lot of people think they are.

Where you go in and you’re shushed and are quickly leaving the building.

So, what goes on inside modern libraries? That’s the real story line.

You walk into Halifax central Library you’ll find cafes.

You’ll find music studios.

You’ll find performance space.

You’ll find outside decks.

Modern libraries bring social capital to great cities and that’s what this library will do.

Projects like this are a huge economic impact to the City of Halifax and the surrounding area and the region.

Currently we have fourteen tender packages that we have issued.

That comprises of approximately sixty-three trade contractors that we have issued contracts to - to provide work on this project

Certainly it’s a huge asset to the city of Halifax and to the surrounding region to have a building built like this in the community

Once it’s completed it will certainly be an icon to this city.

And, you’ll see people coming from certainly though out Canada and around the world

world to come and look at this architectural building that is certainly a very significant element that will be on the Halifax skyline.
