Under Canada’s Economic Action Plan, Responsible Resource Development (RRD) creates opportunities for Canadians while strengthening Canada’s world-class environmental standards.
RRD focuses resources where they matter most—assessments focused on major resource projects with the greatest potential for adverse environmental effects.
RRD will ensure that resource project proponents protect the environment by introducing enforceable environmental assessment decision statements and allowing federal inspectors to examine whether or not conditions of a decision statement are respected.
RRD will authorize the use of monetary penalties for violations of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and the National Energy Board Act.
RRD will improve marine safety by introducing new regulations on tanker safety and make oil and gas pipelines safer by increasing the number of inspections.
