Membership in the nexus program simplifies and speeds up border crossing between Canada and the U.S. for pre-approved travellers.

As part of the Federal Government’s Border Action Plan, the nexus program encourages cross border travel and creates economic benefits for both countries.  By pre-approving travellers under nexus, border services officers are able to concentrate their efforts on unknown or higher-risk travellers and goods.

With more than 682,000 nexus members enrolled, new initiatives are underway to increase membership, allowing even more Canadians and Americans to travel across our border quickly and safely.

Effective immediately, the three-year residency requirement for Canadian and United States citizens to apply to nexus has been lifted.  This means citizens of Canada or the United States currently residing abroad, or who have recently returned to Canada or the United States, are now eligible to apply.

In addition, application blitzes are underway to encourage enrolment.  Three recent blitzes enrolled over 1,000 new nexus members in two months.
